If you've heard it once, you've heard it a million times—the book was better! There's nothing like debating the differences between a favorite book and its translation to the screen. But if you don't know your beloved series is coming out as a movie or that the fun-looking preview you saw was adapted from a book, how can you join the debate? The library is here to the rescue! Here, we will be exploring the movie adaptations soon to hit screens big and small and give you the chance to read before you view.

Oscar Wilde’s classic tale The Canterville Ghost, pits the Otis family, Americans recently relocated to England, against the ghost of Sir Simon, an English nobleman accused of murdering his wife. The more Sir Simon tries to haunt and scare the family, the more they stand their ground. Desperate and defeated, Sir Simon turns to Virginia, the daughter of the family, for help. The latest animated adaptation, featuring the vocal talents of Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, will premiere in theaters on October 31, 2023.

The film adaptation will be released in theaters on October 6, 2023.

In Peter Blatty’s terrifying cult classic, The Exorcist a young girl becomes possessed by a malevolent spirit and two Jesuit priests engage it in a spiritual and physical battle for her very soul. The 2023 film The Exorcist: Believer, starring Ellen Burstyn and Leslie Odom Jr., is a direct sequel to Blatty’s 1973 classic and will premiere on October 13, 2023.
